Northern Indiana Musky Fishing at its Finest Most Musky guides use stiff, heavy duty rods, with near 100 lb. test line and bait casting reels. When you hook a fish, you just “winch” it in. The rod hardly bends. If you are not accustomed to bait casting reels, they can be difficult to use. I choose to use medium action rods with 30 lb. test braided line and spinning reels. It makes for a far more exciting fight and a more memorable Musky experience. I have never had issues with over stressing the fish. Great care is always taken by leaving the fish in the net, and in the water until the hooks are extracted, and we are ready to take a photograph.
The fabled Musky is said to be the fish of 10,000 casts. I am a devoted Musky Fisherman and this is the only specie that I fish for. While they ARE difficult to catch, I have spent countless hours fishing for them on the five outstanding Musky fisheries that are located within one hour of Fort Wayne, Indiana. We are blessed to have Webster, Tippy, Barbee, Loon & Skinner lakes, all of which hold this magnificent fish. |
